A Weekend with Hoopbus in New York City: A Visual Recap

September 13 – Decatur Street Block Party:

The Hoopbus rolled into the Decatur Street block party and brought the community together. We kicked things off with knockout, rolled into full-court 3x3, and naturally ended with a community-wide dance party. HOOPBUS’s magnetic energy, the force that brings communities, families, and strangers together, was on full display.

Shoutout to some of the amazing people I met that day — Rodney Lucas, Ellen Wallop, and of course, the kids who showed up, showed out, and were HOOPING.

On the Move:

From there, the bus took to the streets; spreading love, giving out buckets, and engaging the community.

One highlight: pulling up to a block party celebrating a community member’s five years of sobriety. It was pure spontaneity, community, and a perfect example of HOOPBUS using the game of basketball as a connector. One by one, kids, parents, and grandparents stepped up for buckets, creating moments of joy and memories that will last long after the bus rolled on.

September 14 – Patterson Wave Garden 3x3 Tournament:

The weekend culminated at the Patterson Houses with the inaugural “Patterson Wave Garden 3x3 Tournament,” hosted in partnership with NYCHA and the Center for Justice Innovation. Every shot, move, and follow-through was infused with intensity and a will to win. But what stood out most, were the moments between games; the laughter, the smiles, and the friendships being built.

HOOPBUS brought the juice, and the roster of All-Stars that turned the courts into a stage. Ray Westbrook, Guard Da Fatboy, Majesty, FreshPrince, BallislifeZayyyy, and Overtime Relly kept both the court and crowd electrified with buckets, energy, and dunks that had the whole community on their feet for the entirety of the day.

Shoutout to the HOOPBUS Team:

None of this happens without the crew — Gio, Toby, Nico, Jeremy, and Coco. They coordinated, planned, and poured their hearts into making this weekend possible.

With Love,

Chuck Trey-Masters
